Reported Offense Narrative:
University Police received a report of an attempted burglary at 8:14 a.m. on January 17, 2023. This attempted burglary reportedly occurred between 3:39 a.m. on January 15, 2023 to 7:57 a.m. on January 17, 2023. An employee observed damage to the door lock mechanism at an interior room where equipment is housed. A metal portion of the door latch mechanism was pulled away from the latch and bent. It doesn't appear that access to the room was made.
Location Description:
The incident occurred within the Westgate Building. The Westgate Building is located in the west portion of campus, adjacent to North Atherton Street.

  • Take valuables with you if you leave your office, residence hall or apartment for an extended period of time or buy a safe or trunk to securely store your valuables.
  • Keep doors and windows locked. Report inoperable locks and latches to the appropriate maintenance personnel.


    It can be assumed that conditions continue to exist that may pose a threat to members and guests of the University community. It is the duty of the administration to warn of possible 'dangerous conditions' on or near the campus, and at affiliate organizations off campus; an 'affirmative duty' exists to warn persons associated with the University of possible peril at the hands of some third party or parties.
